Martin Paljak
About: Martin Paljak is the driving force behind Ideelabor, a guerilla consulting company specializing in electronic identity R&D. Being a lifelong Linux user, Martin has advocated open source, cross-platform eID software for Estonian ID-card. His work through OpenSC Open Source project has enabled more than 15% of Estonian ID-card users on alternative platform like Linux, Mac OS X and Windows/Firefox. This also allowed non-windows users to take part in the worlds first parliament e-voting held in Estonia in 2006. During the 2006/2007 New Year Martin created the first Estonian OpenID provider (and the first such major secure OpenID provider in the world), open.id.ee, that uses strong identification? and authentication? using ID-cards and Mobile-ID and essentially OpenID-enabled the whole country, creating close to one million secure OpenID-s. This unique service? opens the Estonian eID scheme to all the services in the world and puts the user in control of their private data - something that is not possible with the absolute identification provided by the standard smart card based authentication. For this work he was named ?the person of the year? by Peeter Marvet from Tehnokratt, a not-for-profit organization running the most-listened technopolitical radio show in a major Estonian radio channel. Since then the idea of using OpenID to allow authentication but at the same time avoid collecting too much personal data and allowing pseudonymous usage of participation and e-democracy systems has been actively discussed in e-Estonia.

Seems that, so far, we are the only two attendants from Estonia... Let's meet and have a chat, maybe we find opportunities to explore together!
See ya.
